HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Adonis Joseph Negri on the
4occasion of his 94th birthday on November 24, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Adonis Negri was born in Chicago on November 24,
61926; he was raised on the South Side of Chicago and lived many
7years in the Roseland neighborhood; he graduated from Fenger
8High School in Chicago and enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marine
9in 1944; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Adonis Negri served with the Merchant Marine from
111944 to 1946; he served as a coal passer on Liberty ships built
12in the Chicago shipyards; his ship carried food and equipment
13to England; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Adonis Negri married Shelby Jean in 1958;
15together, they had three children, Sharon, Laura, and David,
16who gave them nine grandchildren, Robin, Ben, Sarah, Matt,
17Anne, David Jr., Cody, Hailey, and Samantha; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Adonis Negri trained as a tool and die maker and
19worked at Pullman Standard in Chicago; he worked at Kensington
20Steel in Chicago as a tool and die maker and then for over 30
21years as a machine scheduler for Acme Steel/Interlake Steel in

1Riverdale; after retirement, he worked for another 25 years as
2a ranger/starter at the Palmira Golf Club in St. John, Indiana
3until he stopped at the age of 92; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Adonis Negri moved to Glenwood in June of 1967 and
5was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Pack 740 in Glenwood; he was
6also one of the founders and a president of the Glenwood Forest
7Improvement Association in the early 1970s; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Adonis Negri was one of the original members of
9Glenwood Amvets Post 268; he was an honorary member for many
10years until merchant seamen were finally recognized as military
11veterans; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate Adonis Joseph Negri on his 94th birthday, and
15we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Adonis Negri as a symbol of our respect and
18esteem.
