HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Adonis Joseph Negri on the occasion of his 94th birthday on November 24, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Adonis Negri was born in Chicago on November 24, 1926; he was raised on the South Side of Chicago and lived many years in the Roseland neighborhood; he graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago and enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marine in 1944; and

WHEREAS, Adonis Negri served with the Merchant Marine from 1944 to 1946; he served as a coal passer on Liberty ships built in the Chicago shipyards; his ship carried food and equipment to England; and

WHEREAS, Adonis Negri married Shelby Jean in 1958; together, they had three children, Sharon, Laura, and David, who gave them nine grandchildren, Robin, Ben, Sarah, Matt, Anne, David Jr., Cody, Hailey, and Samantha; and

WHEREAS, Adonis Negri trained as a tool and die maker and worked at Pullman Standard in Chicago; he worked at Kensington Steel in Chicago as a tool and die maker and then for over 30 years as a machine scheduler for Acme Steel/Interlake Steel in Riverdale; after retirement, he worked for another 25 years as a ranger/starter at the Palmira Golf Club in St. John, Indiana until he stopped at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, Adonis Negri moved to Glenwood in June of 1967 and was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Pack 740 in Glenwood; he was also one of the founders and a president of the Glenwood Forest Improvement Association in the early 1970s; and

WHEREAS, Adonis Negri was one of the original members of Glenwood Amvets Post 268; he was an honorary member for many years until merchant seamen were finally recognized as military veterans; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Adonis Joseph Negri on his 94th birthday, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Adonis Negri as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
