| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Nancy Voots on the | 4 | | occasion of her retirement as Will County Clerk; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Voots is a longtime public servant and has | 6 | | dedicated her life to helping others; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Voots is a native of Joliet; she began | 8 | | working at the Will County Clerk's Office in 1975 when she was | 9 | | still a student at St. Francis Academy; she accepted a fulltime | 10 | | position mere days after graduating high school in 1976; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Voots has been serving as the Will County | 12 | | Clerk since 2002; she is only the third person to lead the | 13 | | office since 1962 and has been an integral part of the county's | 14 | | operations; during her 16 years as the county clerk, she built | 15 | | a reputation of excellence in overseeing elections, tax | 16 | | extensions, vital records, and public filings; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Voots has a strong work ethic and compassion | 18 | | for all the people of Will County; she visited every township, | 19 | | met with every precinct committeeman, and always kept her door | 20 | | open; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, With her infectious smile and love for her job, no | 2 | | challenge was too big for Nancy Voots; she never lost her | 3 | | appreciation for interacting with county residents and the | 4 | | opportunity to help others; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Voots holds the highest regard for | 6 | | elections; her dedication to the voting process helped Will | 7 | | County seamlessly administer federal, State, and local | 8 | | elections for over 40 years; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Educating voters is important to Nancy Voots; she | 10 | | took it upon herself to travel the county to meet with | 11 | | residents and teach them about voting; she also turned part of | 12 | | the clerk's office into a mini-museum to educate the public | 13 | | about the history of voting and to display the evolution of | 14 | | voting equipment; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Having raised two daughters with disabilities, | 16 | | one of the biggest priorities for Nancy Voots as county clerk | 17 | | was expanding opportunities for voters with disabilities; she | 18 | | oversaw the new voting system created in 2004, which | 19 | | implemented the optical scan election system with equipment for | 20 | | the disabled, allowing them to vote independently for the first | 21 | | time; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, With 43 years of service to Will County, Nancy |

| 1 | | Voots will be remembered for her dedication to public service | 2 | | and for her commitment to her community; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 4 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 | | we congratulate Nancy Voots on her retirement as Will County | 6 | | Clerk, thank her for making a positive difference in the lives | 7 | | of Will County residents, and wish her the best in all her | 8 | | future endeavors; and be it further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to Nancy Voots and her family as an expression of our | 11 | | appreciation and esteem for her exemplary career.
