SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/10-20.69 new
105 ILCS 5/34-18.61 new

    Amends the School Code. Provides that each school district that maintains a secondary school must offer an early college high school program for its secondary school students to be completed by the student within 2 school years; defines "early college high school program". Provides that a student enrolled in an early college high school program is exempt from the payment of any registration, tuition, or laboratory fees charged by an institution of higher learning and the school district is responsible for all costs associated with the program.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. This Act may be referred to as the Early College
5High School Program Act.
 
6    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
710-20.69 and 34-18.61 as follows:
 
8    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.69 new)
9    Sec. 10-20.69. Early college high school.
10    (a) In this Section:
11    "Early college high school program" means an academic
12program consisting of a series of dual credit courses that
13allows a high school student to earn, within 2 school years,
14both a high school diploma and (i) an associate degree issued
15by an institution of higher learning or (ii) up to 2 years of
16academic credit toward a bachelor's degree at an institution of
17higher learning.
18    "Institution of higher learning" has the meaning given to
19that term under Section 10 of the Higher Education Student
20Assistance Act.
21    (b) Each school district that maintains a secondary school
