SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The fifth generation of wireless (5G) is expected to be available throughout the country in 2020; and

WHEREAS, 5G taps into millimeter waves at the top of the radio spectrum that have not previously been used for telecommunication to allow for the faster transfer of data; and

WHEREAS, New antennas and other 5G equipment will need to be installed to increase capacity; and

WHEREAS, New technology frequently invokes concerns about health impacts; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that the 5G Task Force is created to identify any major health risks associated with the proliferation of 5G infrastructure in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall be comprised of the following members, who shall serve without compensation:

(1) One member from the Department of Public Health, appointed by the Director of Public Health;

(2) One member from the Department of Innovation and Technology, appointed by the Director of the Department of Innovation and Technology;

(3) One member who is considered an expert in the field of radiology, appointed by the Governor; and

(4) One member who is considered an expert in the field of electrical engineering and is employed as a professor of the subject, appointed by the Governor; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Department of Public Health shall provide administrative support to the Task Force; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall submit a final report to the General Assembly by January 1, 2021 and, upon the filing of its report, is dissolved.
