SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph L. Monti on June 8, 2019 at the age
4of 81; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti was born on October 12, 1937 to
6Joseph and Katherine Monti; he lived in Oak Park and formerly
7in Cicero and Berwyn; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti graduated with a Bachelor of Science
9in Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology and
10completed a master's degree in education from DePaul
11University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, For 34 years, Joseph Monti was a high school
13science and math teacher at De La Salle Institute in Chicago,
14where he was also a successful chess coach; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti was a composer, pianist, and singer
16and loved antiquing and traveling the world with his wife,
17Mary; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti was an animal and nature lover; he
19enjoyed going to movies, operas, and orchestral performances
20and was an avid fan of all of Chicago's sports teams; and

1    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti was active in two churches during his
2adult life, St. Christopher's of Oak Park and St. Michael's of
3Berwyn, serving both parishes as a warden on the vestry and as
4a stewardship leader; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti was legally blind for most of his
6life and was an officer of the Illinois chapter of the National
7Federation of the Blind; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti was preceded in death by his parents,
9Joseph and Katherine Monti, and his daughter, Amy Monti; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti was married to his wife, Mary, for
11almost 57 years; she passed away shortly after his death; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Joseph Monti is survived by his children, Joseph
13(Brenda) and David (Brenda), and his grandchildren, Isabel,
14Peter, Aaron, and Alyssa; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Joseph L. Monti and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Joseph Monti as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
