SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jerry Harkins Jr. of Rock Island, who passed away on May 12, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Harkins was born to Jerry Harkins Sr. and Maurine Bredimus Harkins in Des Moines, Iowa on April 5, 1929; he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctorate degree from Kansas City University; Jerry married Rita Warren on July 29, 1974 in Rock Island; he was previously married to Dolores Kenning; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Harkins worked in the fields of banking, finance, and political consulting; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Harkins was was a member of the St. Patrick Society of the Quad Cities; he enjoyed playing golf and spent a lot of time doing so; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Harkins was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tom Harkins; and his grandson, Rev. Evan Harkins; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Harkins is survived by his wife, Rita; his children, Joe (Connie) Harkins, Pat (Allyson) Harkins, Luke Harkins, Mary (Don) Quinn, Katy (Mike) Urbik, Frank Harkins, Mike (Sonya) Harkins, Danny (Sandi) Harkins, Molly Harkins, and Jameson Harkins; his 34 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, Kay Gangel; and his sister-in-law, Maria Harkins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jerry Harkins Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jerry Harkins as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
