SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William Earl "Bill" Quigley, who passed
4away on February 9, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bill Quigley was born in Indianapolis; he attended
6Purdue University and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the
7Korean War; he served in the signal corps and learned
8technology such as satellite and microwave communications; he
9married Joan Louise Deputy in Augusta, Georgia in 1951; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bill Quigley used his military training during his
11career with AT&T as a supervising engineer; he was a member of
12the Communications Workers of America; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bill Quigley settled in Ottawa upon his
14retirement; he did volunteer work at a homeless shelter and
15served on the Ottawa Planning Commission; he was a longtime
16tinkerer and had an interest in electronics that including
17building the family's first color TV; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bill Quigley was an immense fan of the
19Indianapolis 500 and attended races at the Brickyard for over
2060 years, wearing victory-flag checkered socks while running
21stopwatches on the lead cars; he was also an avid chess player;

2    WHEREAS, Bill Quigley was preceded in death by his son, Dan
3Quigley; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bill Quigley is survived by his wife of 67 years,
5Joan; his son, U.S. Rep. Mike (Barbara) Quigley; his daughters,
6Chris Benson and Linda Quigley; his daughter-in-law, Betty
7Quigley; and six grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10William Earl "Bill" Quigley and extend our sincere condolences
11to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of William Quigley as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
