SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Frank L. Urbanik of Wadsworth, who passed away on April 18, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik was born to Joseph and Sophia (Murzyn) Urbanik in North Chicago on July 4, 1931; he graduated from Waukegan High School in 1949 and proudly served his country in the Korean War as a US Army Private First Class (Marksmen) stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska; and

WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik worked two full-time jobs for many years to support his young family, both as a switchman for the EJ&E railroad and as an electrician for the US Steel Wiremill; subsequently, he spent over 45 years as a master electrician. retiring from both US Steel and the Department of Defense; and

WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik was a member of Holy Rosary, Immaculate Conception, and Saint Patrick's parishes over the years; he was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, The most important things to Frank Urbanik were his family, his faith, and baseball; in his youth, he was a standout third baseman and great hitter who could have played for the majors had he not been called away to service; he played semi-pro ball across Chicagoland with St Joes and the North Shore League and was actively recruited by Major League scouts for multiple tryouts, including the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs; even in old age, he was a fierce competitor, whether he was playing softball, golfing with his best friends, or playing checkers and baggo with his kids; and

WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Joan Marie; his brothers, Aloysius and Joseph; and his sister, Vera Lenzini; and

WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rosemary; his children, Cynthia Urbanik, Deborah Wicks, and Frank Jr; his grandchildren, Audrey Dzhurov, Nicholas Hawn, Melissa Hawn, Jaime Wicks, Alex Wicks, Joseph Urbanik, Luke Urbanik, and Faith Urbanik; his great-grandchildren, Rose, Cailin, Raegan, Sydney, Rachel, Josie, Mia, Michael, Beau, and Elio; his sister, Rita Mateja; and his beloved big brother, Anthony; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Frank L. Urbanik and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frank Urbanik as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
