SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dennis R. Shackelford of Rochester, who
4passed away on July 21, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford was born in Lafayette, Indiana
6to George Shackelford and Betty Jo Shackelford on November 4,
71958; he attended Rochester High School and Springfield College
8in Illinois; he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees
9from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; he married
10Judy Langfelder on March 4, 1984; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford owned Judy's Hallmark shops in
12the Springfield area; he was the youngest Hallmark franchisee
13at the time he opened the stores, serving the community for
14over 30 years; after retiring, he went into banking and worked
15for the Williamsville State Bank and Trust, where he also
16served on the Board of Directors; over the span of his career,
17he received numerous awards and developed countless
18friendships with coworkers and customers; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford remained invested in the
20development of small businesses in his community as an active
21member of the Taylorville, Decatur, and Greater Springfield
22Chambers of Commerce; he served on the Board of Trustees for

1Lincoln Land Community College for six years, and he was chair
2for two of those years; he was also a trustee of the Rochester
3Township Board; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford was known for his easy manner,
5quick wit, mentorship, and generosity; he was affectionately
6known as "Pappy" and "Champ" by his grandchildren; he will be
7remembered as a devoted family man who remained true to his
8beliefs and principles; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford was preceded in death by his
10parents and his in-laws, Ossie and Midge Langfelder; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford is survived by his wife, Judy;
12his children, Andrew Shackelford, Lindsey (Lance) Miller, Amy
13(Tommy) Nika, and Emily Shackelford; his grandchildren,
14Griffin Miller, Nora Miller, and Regan Nika; his sisters, Sue
15Ann Kruger, Jeanne (Rick) Eilering, and Linda (Chuck) Lee; his
16beloved Langfelder sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and his
17nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Dennis R. Shackelford and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Dennis Shackelford as an expression
3of our deepest sympathy.
