SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel L. "Chief" Johnson of Port Byron, who passed away on August 8, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Dan Johnson was born in Kewanee to Hayden "Jack" and Adella (Euchaski) Johnson on August 24, 1935; he graduated from Visitation Catholic School and Wethersfield High School; he married Colette Wilson in 1956, and she preceded him in death in 1978; he married Linda J. Coe in Colona on June 22, 1985; he began his service in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft loadmaster in 1952, and he retired as a chief master sergeant (E-9) in 1995; during his military service, he attended the University of Maryland and the University of Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, Following his service, Dan Johnson was employed as a maintenance management supervisor at the Arsenal with the U.S. Army Armament, Munitions & Chemical Command (AMCCOM); he later became a truck owner and operator, and alongside his wife, he was a popcorn farmer; and

WHEREAS, Dan Johnson served as trustee and later supervisor of Coe Township, as president of the St. John's Parish Council, as Eucharistic minister and lector at St. John's, as trustee and president of the Our Lady of Grace Education Commission, and as a three-time member of the Alleman High School Board; he was a life member of the Coe-Lamb American Legion, the Vietnam Veterans Association, the Professional Loadmaster Association, the Air Force Sergeant's Association, and the Air Force Association; and

WHEREAS, Dan Johnson was preceded in death by his first wife and his parents; and

WHEREAS, Dan Johnson is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Daniel C. Johnson, Valary L. Johnson, and Leslie D. (Doug) Johnson; his brother, Michael (Marcia) Johnson; his grandchildren, Nicolette (Joji) Mangubat, Cameron Starke, and Dylan Johnson; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Daniel L. "Chief" Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dan Johnson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
