SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Anne H. Evans of Des Plaines, who passed away on April 7, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Anne Evans was born in Long Beach, California on May 7, 1926; she attended Northwestern University, where she majored in chemistry and math, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1947; she married Thomas Martin Evans that same year; and

WHEREAS, Anne Evans joined the Maine Township Community Concert Association when it started in Des Plaines and served as its president for a time; she joined the Des Plaines Arts Council as a representative from the Northwest Symphony Orchestra Board and joined efforts to restore the Des Plaines Theater as a performing arts center; she was a member of the Northwest Suburban branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and served on the board of Church Women United of Des Plaines; and

WHEREAS, Anne Evans began her involvement with local and State government as a founding member of the League of Women Voters (LWV) in Des Plaines; she was elected as a delegate to the Illinois Constitutional Convention on a non-partisan ballot in 1969; she was later elected to the Maine Township High School board, where she served for ten years, including as president; and

WHEREAS, Anne Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her brother William Hincke; and her son-in-law, Bryan Newkirk; and

WHEREAS, Anne Evans is survived by her children, Kate Newkirk, Nancy (Vince) Johnsen, Betty Lou (Neal) Schindler, and James (Stacee) Evans; her grandchildren, Jenai, John, Susanna, Tom, Tobin, Steve, Brian, Brent, and Bruce; her sisters-in-law, Nancy (the late Arvid) Carlson and Lucy Hincke; and her five nieces and nephews and their families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Anne H. Evans and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Anne Evans as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
