SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jose Del Carmen Velazquez, who passed
4away on February 2, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jose Velazquez was born in New Orleans to Jose
6Maria and Antonia Paltron Velazquez on August 11, 1937; as a
7young boy, he served daily Mass at the Convent of the Sisters
8of The Holy Family in the French Quarter of New Orleans; he
9graduated with honors from Holy Redeemer Elementary School and
10St. Augustine High School; after high school, he served with
11the United States Air Force in Vietnam; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jose Velazquez began work for the State of
13Illinois at the employment office in Danville; he became the
14manager and mentored numerous young men and women; he also
15served as an alderman for the City of Danville; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jose Velazquez was a member of VFW Post #728, the
17Honor Guard, the Salvation Army Board, the American Red Cross,
18the Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank, and
19the Kiwanis; he was the lead usher and a Eucharistic Minister
20at St. Paul's Catholic Church; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jose Velazquez was a man who did not have a mean

1bone in his body; he was a warm friendly man who made his mark
2in the world by the basic goodness and generosity of his
3character; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jose Velazquez enjoyed traveling with his father,
5his brothers, and his wife on trips to Venezuela; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jose Velazquez was preceded in death by his wife
7of 47 years, Eloiza; his siblings, Jose Maria, Lawrence
8(Loria), Philip, and Anna; and his sister-in-law, Grace; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jose Velazquez is survived by his stepchildren,
10Saundra Moore, Dennis Moore, La Tonya Wheeler, and Brenda
11Morris; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight
12great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and
13devoted friends, especially Debbie and Marvin Cox; his special
14friend, Kolleen Assad; and his siblings, Thomas (Linda) and
15Raphael; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Jose Del Carmen Velazquez and extend our sincere condolences to
19his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
