SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles A. "Charlie" Cheesman of Rock Island, who passed away on March 18, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was born to Lonnie and Lillie (DeMoss) Cheesman on October 1, 1936; he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he married Sandy Long on November 21, 1981; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman worked in maintenance for the Rock Island/Milan School District, retiring from Earl Hanson Elementary School in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was heavily involved in fastpitch softball and served as a pitcher for the Argus Softball team in the early 1960s, playing in the World Softball Tournament at Douglas Park in Rock Island; he continued his love of softball by helping coach at Rock Island High School and Black Hawk College; he also helped with the formation of the Rock Island Red Sox baseball team; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was a member of the Milan VFW and the American Legion; he especially enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club; he was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls and the Iowa Hawkeyes; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Drake Long; his brothers, Wayne, Willis, Frank, Richard, and Jessie Cheesman; and his sister, Tessie Albright; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Cheesman is survived by his wife, Sandy; his children, Ryan (Melissa) Barton, Michael (Jennifer) Long, and Steven (Yvonne) Long; his grandsons, Austin, Brant, Jacob, and Lucas; and his brother, Virgil Cheesman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles A. "Charlie" Cheesman and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charlie Cheesman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
