| 1 | | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | 3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals | 4 | | who have served our country and State and, in doing so, have | 5 | | made the ultimate sacrifice; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Chief Arthur L. Weston was born to Leo and | 7 | | Dorothy Weston in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 1, 1925; he | 8 | | graduated from West High School in 1943; he served with the | 9 | | U.S. Army during World War II; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weston started his career as a patrolman | 11 | | for the Loves Park Police Department; he was the former police | 12 | | chief and organizer of the Rock Valley security force; he also | 13 | | served as the Byron and Roscoe police chief as well as deputy | 14 | | coroner for Winnebago County and deputy in the Winnebago | 15 | | County Sheriff's Department; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weston married Marion Weston on August 21, | 17 | | 1947; he was a loving husband and father to Marion and his five | 18 | | children, Cindy Gau, Vickey Robert, Debbie Pasch, Wanda | 19 | | Vertterlli, and William Weston; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weston was a proud member of the Illinois | 21 | | Police Association, the Rockton Rotary Club, and the Rockton |

| 1 | | American Legion; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, On October 27, 1977, Chief Weston responded to a | 3 | | burglary-in-progress call and located the suspect in an | 4 | | upstairs bedroom; after an intense struggle, he was able to | 5 | | place the suspect into custody; as he was transporting the | 6 | | suspect to jail, he began to have chest pains and called for | 7 | | backup; he was taken to a local hospital, where he died | 8 | | approximately one hour later; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weston gave his life in the line of duty; | 10 | | and | 11 | | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Chief Weston was | 12 | | survived by his wife, Marion, and his children, Cindy, Vickey, | 13 | | Debbie, Wanda, and William; therefore, be it | 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 15 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | 16 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of | 17 | | Illinois Route 2 in Rockton as the "Chief Arthur L. Weston | 18 | | Memorial Highway"; and be it further | 19 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | 20 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | 21 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs |

| 1 | | giving notice of the name "Chief Arthur L. Weston Memorial | 2 | | Highway"; and be it further | 3 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 4 | | presented to the family of Chief Weston and the Secretary of | 5 | | Transportation. |
