HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rockford Alderman Linda McNeely, who passed away on April 24, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was born in Rockford to John and Juanita McNeely on September 16, 1955; she graduated from Auburn High School and received her associate's degree from Wilbur Wright College; she received her bachelor's degree in government from the University of Denver and her master's degree in business from Roosevelt University; and

WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was self-employed as a tax preparer and dedicated more than a quarter of a century to public service; and

WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was first elected as an alderman for the City of Rockford in 1997 and continued to serve until her passing; she dedicated 26 years of her life to serving her community as an alderman; she was also elected as a 16th Congressional District State Central Committeewoman in 2002, 2006, and 2010; and

WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was a kind and compassionate person as well as a strong advocate for her ward; she was never afraid to voice dissent, provide perspective, and argue for what she believed was right; and

WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Anna Marie Pickett and Marie Hudson; and her brother, Leon McNeely; and

WHEREAS, Linda McNeely is survived by her nephews, Andrew McNeely, who she loved like a brother, Lamont Hudson, Pierre McNeely, Christopher Pickett, Hassan (Carla) Muhammad, and Lawrence (Stephanie) Pickett; her niece, Lophina Thompson; and numerous other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rockford Alderman Linda McNeely and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Linda McNeely as an expression of our deepest sympathies.
