| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rockford | 4 | | Alderman Linda McNeely, who passed away on April 24, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was born in Rockford to John and | 6 | | Juanita McNeely on September 16, 1955; she graduated from | 7 | | Auburn High School and received her associate's degree from | 8 | | Wilbur Wright College; she received her bachelor's degree in | 9 | | government from the University of Denver and her master's | 10 | | degree in business from Roosevelt University; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was self-employed as a tax preparer | 12 | | and dedicated more than a quarter of a century to public | 13 | | service; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was first elected as an alderman | 15 | | for the City of Rockford in 1997 and continued to serve until | 16 | | her passing; she dedicated 26 years of her life to serving her | 17 | | community as an alderman; she was also elected as a 16th | 18 | | Congressional District State Central Committeewoman in 2002, | 19 | | 2006, and 2010; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was a kind and compassionate person | 21 | | as well as a strong advocate for her ward; she was never afraid |

| 1 | | to voice dissent, provide perspective, and argue for what she | 2 | | believed was right; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was preceded in death by her | 4 | | parents; her sisters, Anna Marie Pickett and Marie Hudson; and | 5 | | her brother, Leon McNeely; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Linda McNeely is survived by her nephews, Andrew | 7 | | McNeely, who she loved like a brother, Lamont Hudson, Pierre | 8 | | McNeely, Christopher Pickett, Hassan (Carla) Muhammad, and | 9 | | Lawrence (Stephanie) Pickett; her niece, Lophina Thompson; and | 10 | | numerous other relatives and friends; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 12 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 13 | | we mourn the passing of Rockford Alderman Linda McNeely and | 14 | | extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all | 15 | | who knew and loved her; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Linda McNeely as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathies.
