HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the Junior League of
4Chicago, Inc. on its history of promoting civic welfare and
5advancing women leaders for the past 112 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Founded by Lucy McCormick Blair Linn in 1912, the
7Junior League of Chicago was initially established to elevate
8young women to the forefront of the industrial and social
9issues confronting Chicago, with members collectively working
10together to address those issues through positive and
11impactful change; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Today, the Junior League of Chicago is a
13metropolitan nonprofit organization of women committed to
14promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of its
15members, and improving the community through effective action
16and leadership of trained volunteers; the organization reaches
17out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who
18demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago has remained
21dedicated to its mission, leading to the development and
22execution of significant projects in response to the evolving

1needs of the community; the organization has spearheaded a
2number of historic projects through the years, including the
3opening of the Chicago Children's Museum, the creation of the
4first Victim Witness Assistance program, the founding of the
5Junior Museum and Volunteer Guide Program at the Art Institute
6of Chicago, the funding of the first consultation clinic for
7epilepsy, and the opening of the first pediatric psychiatry
8center in the country, among others; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago has continued
10efforts to empower at-risk families through advocating for
11essential needs, literacy, and violence prevention and
12awareness; for over a century, the organization has partnered
13with various community organizations, non-profits, and schools
14to achieve its mission and has supported several entities
15through volunteerism and fundraising efforts, including the
16Chicago Public Library, Cradles to Crayons, Green City Market,
17Lincoln Park Community Services, Sarah's Circle, and Ronald
18McDonald House Charities; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Through its numerous partnerships, the Junior
20League of Chicago annually donates over 125,000 volunteer
21hours to agencies and programs supporting child welfare and
22education, and it also raises thousands of dollars each year
23to bolster the efforts of its collaborating community
24organizations; and

1    WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago bestows on its
2members the opportunity to become exceptionally qualified
3civic leaders through camaraderie, mentorship, training, and
4its programs and activities; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we recognize the Junior League of Chicago, Inc. on its history
8of promoting civic welfare and advancing women leaders, and we
9wish the organization continued success in its endeavors; and
10be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the Junior League of Chicago as an expression of
13our esteem and respect.
