| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Thomas Ellsworth Wood of Lake Forest, | 4 | | formerly of Bannockburn, who passed away on February 10, 2017; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Wood was born in Springfield, Ohio to the | 7 | | Reverend Walter Scott Wood and Faith Rosensteel Wood on August | 8 | | 28, 1926; the family moved to Oak Park, and later to Chicago; | 9 | | he enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 18 years old | 10 | | and served on a minesweeper in the Pacific theatre; he attended | 11 | | Denison University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and was | 12 | | a member of Sigma Chi fraternity; in 1952, he met Patricia | 13 | | Carter, to whom he proposed on their third date; they were | 14 | | married in 1953; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Wood joined Hewitt Associates (now AON) | 16 | | after a brief stint at Hotpoint Co.; he spent the next 30 years | 17 | | at Hewitt, and eventually became a partner and served on the | 18 | | Executive Committee for 16 years, opening U.S. and | 19 | | International offices; he is recognized as a pioneer in the | 20 | | creation of flexible compensation; after a distinguished | 21 | | career at Hewitt Associates, he went on to sit on numerous | 22 | | boards, as well as to teach at the Kellogg School of | 23 | | Management; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Wood was a member of the board of Highland | 2 | | Park Hospital for 14 years, a Vestryman at St. Gregory's | 3 | | Episcopal Church in Deerfield, and Chairman of the Planning | 4 | | Commission in Bannockburn; he enjoyed the family cabin in the | 5 | | Northwoods of Wisconsin, wintering in La Quinta, California, | 6 | | and antique cars; his true passion was sailing on Lake | 7 | | Michigan; he was a member of Exmoor Country Club for 53 years; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Wood was preceded in death by his sister, | 10 | | Constance Jane Tipps; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Wood is survived by his wife, Patricia | 12 | | Carter Wood; his son, Thomas Scott Wood (Maria); his daughter, | 13 | | Leslie Anne Bragg (Barry); and his grandchildren, Meredith and | 14 | | Stephanie Bragg, and Thomas, Amanda, Tyler, and Travis Wood; | 15 | | his brother-in-law, C. Leslie Carter; and many nieces and | 16 | | nephews; therefore, be it
