SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 25/1.25 new

    Amends the Interscholastic Athletic Organization Act. Requires an association or other entity that has as one of its purposes promoting, sponsoring, regulating, or in any manner providing for interscholastic athletics or any form of athletic competition among schools and students within this State to adopt a policy to allow students enrolled in a school that is not in session because employees are on strike to participate in a State series hosted by that association or other entity. Provides that the policy shall allow a school board member, school administrator, or parent volunteer to oversee the students participating in the State series during the strike. Provides that the school district and a school board member, school administrator, or parent volunteer who oversees students participating in a State series shall incur no liability, except for willful or wanton conduct, while the school board member, school administrator, or parent volunteer is overseeing students. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Interscholastic Athletic Organization Act
5is amended by adding Section 1.25 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 25/1.25 new)
7    Sec. 1.25. Policy on participation during strike.
8Notwithstanding any other State law or rule, an association or
9other entity that has as one of its purposes promoting,
10sponsoring, regulating, or in any manner providing for
11interscholastic athletics or any form of athletic competition
12among schools and students within this State shall adopt a
13policy to allow students enrolled in a school that is not in
14session because employees are on strike to participate in a
15State series hosted by that association or other entity. The
16policy shall allow a school board member, school
17administrator, or parent volunteer to oversee the students
18participating in the State series during the strike.
19    The school district and a school board member, school
20administrator, or parent volunteer who oversees students
21participating in a State series under this Section shall incur
22no liability, except for willful or wanton conduct, while the
23school board member, school administrator, or parent volunteer
