SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
25 ILCS 10/1.5 new

    Amends the General Assembly Operations Act. Provides that no person may serve more than a total of 8 years in any one of the following offices or more than a combined total of 12 years in any 2 or more of the following offices: Speaker of the House of Representatives, President of the Senate, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, and Minority Leader of the Senate. Provides that the limitations imposed by the amendatory Act apply to service beginning on and after the second Wednesday in January of 2023.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The General Assembly Operations Act is amended
5by adding Section 1.5 as follows:
 
6    (25 ILCS 10/1.5 new)
7    Sec. 1.5. Term limits for legislative leaders.
8Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, no person may
9serve more than a total of 8 years in any one of the following
10offices or more than a combined total of 12 years in any 2 or
11more of the following offices: Speaker of the House of
12Representatives, President of the Senate, Minority Leader of
13the House of Representatives, or Minority Leader of the
14Senate. The limitations imposed by this amendatory Act of the
15102nd General Assembly apply to service beginning on and after
16the second Wednesday in January of 2023.
