SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

110 ILCS 27/23 new

Amends the Dual Credit Quality Act. Provides that a partnership agreement between a school district and a community college district may allow a student to enroll in a dual credit course who does not otherwise meet the community college's academic eligibility requirements to enroll in the dual credit course. Sets forth requirements concerning such a partnership agreement. Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Dual Credit Quality Act is amended by adding Section 23 as follows:

(110 ILCS 27/23 new)

Sec. 23. Student enrollment eligibility.

(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act or any administrative rules to the contrary, the partnership agreement between a school district and a community college district may allow a student to enroll in a dual credit course who does not otherwise meet the community college's academic eligibility requirements to enroll in the dual credit course. Under such a partnership agreement:

(1) the student shall receive the same instruction and shall complete the same coursework as those students enrolled in the course who do meet the academic eligibility requirements; and

(2) the instructor of the dual credit course shall meet the academic credential requirements to teach the dual credit course, consistent with paragraphs (1), (2), and (3) of Section 20 of this Act, but shall not be required to exceed those credential requirements.

(b) Nothing in this Section shall be construed to allow the awarding of dual credit to any student who does not meet the requirements of the partnership agreement under subsection (a).

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
