SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
430 ILCS 66/50

    Amends the Firearm Concealed Carry Act. Provides that if a concealed carry license expires the license shall remain in effect for a period of 6 months after its expiration date. Provides that a license shall not be revoked during that 6-month period for failure to renew the license or for failure of the Illinois State Police to act upon the license renewal application within that period.

1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Firearm Concealed Carry Act is amended by
5changing Section 50 as follows:
 
6    (430 ILCS 66/50)
7    Sec. 50. License renewal.
8    (a) This subsection (a) applies through the 180th day
9following July 12, 2019 (the effective date of Public Act
10101-80) this amendatory Act of the 101st General Assembly. The
11Illinois State Police shall, 180 days prior to the expiration
12of a concealed carry license, notify each person whose license
13is to expire a notification of the expiration of the license
14and instructions for renewal. Applications for renewal of a
15license shall be made to the Illinois State Police. A license
16shall be renewed for a period of 5 years upon receipt of a
17completed renewal application, completion of 3 hours of
18training required under Section 75 of this Act, payment of the
19applicable renewal fee, and completion of an investigation
20under Section 35 of this Act. The renewal application shall
21contain the information required in Section 30 of this Act,
22except that the applicant need not resubmit a full set of
23fingerprints.

1    (b) This subsection (b) applies on and after the 181st day
2following July 12, 2019 (the effective date of Public Act
3101-80) this amendatory Act of the 101st General Assembly.

5Illinois State Police. A license shall be renewed for a period
6of 5 years from the date of expiration on the applicant's
7current license upon the receipt of a completed renewal
8application, completion of 3 hours of training required under
9Section 75 of this Act, payment of the applicable renewal fee,
10and completion of an investigation under Section 35 of this
11Act. The renewal application shall contain the information
12required in Section 30 of this Act, except that the applicant
13need not resubmit a full set of fingerprints. If a license
14expires the license shall remain in effect for a period of 6
15months after its expiration date. A license shall not be
16revoked during that 6-month period for failure to renew the
17license or for failure of the Illinois State Police to act upon
18the license renewal application within that period.
