SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

55 ILCS 5/3-9001.5 new

Amends the Counties Code. Provides that, in addition to any other qualifications provided by law, a person is not eligible to hold the office of State's Attorney in any county unless he or she is a legal resident of the State of Illinois and has never been convicted of a felony. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning local government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section 3-9001.5 as follows:

(55 ILCS 5/3-9001.5 new)

Sec. 3-9001.5. Qualifications. In addition to any other qualifications provided by law, a person is not eligible to hold the office of State's Attorney in any county unless he or she is a legal resident of the State of Illinois and has never been convicted of a felony.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
