SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-407  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-407

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Requires a vehicle owner to submit a valid Illinois driver's license with an application for a temporary registration plate. Requires a resident of this State who is the owner of a vehicle with a temporary registration plate issued by a State other than the State of Illinois to apply for a temporary registration plate issued by the State of Illinois.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5changing Section 3-407 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-407)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-407)
7    Sec. 3-407. Temporary permit or registration pending
8registration.
9    (a) Temporary Permit. The Secretary of State in his
10discretion may grant a temporary permit or placard to operate
11a vehicle for which application for registration and
12certificate of title has been made where such application is
13accompanied by the proper fee, pending action upon said
14application by the Secretary of State. In lieu of payment of
15the proper fee, the Secretary of State may accept a bond
16therefor or a certificate of deposit, in the proper amount,
17and in the same form and subject to the same requirements as
18the payment of such fees or taxes on an installment basis,
19except that the fees or taxes due shall be payable and paid to
20the Secretary of State. The design, color and format of the
21temporary permit or placard shall be wholly within the
22discretion of the Secretary of State.
23    (b) Temporary Registration. The Secretary of State in his

1discretion may issue registration plates to an owner for which
2application and certificate of title has been made where such
3application is accompanied by a valid Illinois driver's
4license and the proper fee and tax, pending completion of the
5said application by the applicant and the Secretary, subject
6however to rules and regulations promulgated by the Secretary.
7    (b-1) An resident of this State who is the owner of a
8vehicle with a temporary registration plate issued by a State
9other than the State of Illinois shall apply for a temporary
10registration plate issued by the State of Illinois.
11    (c) Revocation. A temporary permit or registration is
12subject to revocation to the same extent as any other
13registration.
