SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 330/8g new
210 ILCS 85/6.33 new

    Amends the University of Illinois Hospital Act and the Hospital Licensing Act. Provides that, notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, hospitals organized or licensed under the Acts shall not require a patient in the hospital's emergency room to pay a copayment before receiving treatment for the patient's medical emergency.

1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The University of Illinois Hospital Act is
5amended by adding Section 8g as follows:
 
6    (110 ILCS 330/8g new)
7    Sec. 8g. Emergency room treatment; copayment.
8Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the
9University of Illinois Hospital shall not require a patient in
10a University of Illinois Hospital emergency room to pay a
11copayment before receiving treatment for the patient's medical
12emergency.
 
13    Section 10. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by
14adding Section 6.33 as follows:
 
15    (210 ILCS 85/6.33 new)
16    Sec. 6.33. Emergency room treatment; copayment.
17Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, a
18hospital licensed under this Act shall not require a patient
19in the hospital's emergency room to pay a copayment before
20receiving treatment for the patient's medical emergency.
