HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kathleen Elizabeth Mau of Elgin, who passed away on February 11, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau was born to Stanley and Marlene Malone Kenney in Park Ridge on February 6, 1970; she graduated from Lake Forest College in 1992; she was married to her husband Chris for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau worked at Sears in various management positions for over 25 years until 2014; most recently, she owned and managed the Blue Box Café in Elgin; since opening in 2014 at 176 E. Chicago St., the "Doctor Who"-themed Blue Box grew strong roots in the community and became known not only for its espresso coffee and signature sandwiches but also for its support of nerd culture; it has been a hub for live events, including podcast fundraisers, record release parties, live theater, improv, mini comic book conventions and, of course, "Doctor Who" events; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau served as a mentor and leader of the Youth and Young Adult Mission at First Congregational Church of Elgin; she was a very loving and caring person and always looked for ways to help those in need; she touched many lives with her positive attitude and her love of life; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau often attended Comic Conventions and events with her husband; she loved animals and enjoyed traveling to new places, especially to try the local cuisine; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Kenney; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau is survived by her husband, Christopher Mau; her pets, Angus and Fiona; her mother, Marlene Kenney; her brother, Brian (Michelle Kinnun) Kenney; her nephew, Cole; her niece, Megan; her aunt, Patt Malone; and her uncles, Steve Malone, Robert (Donna) Malone, and Dennis (Virginia) Malone; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kathleen Elizabeth Mau and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kathleen Mau as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
