HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Chevy Humphrey on being named president and chief executive officer of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is a long-time, successful leader in the museum field; she previously served as president and CEO of the Arizona Science Center (ASC) in Phoenix, Arizona for nearly 15 years; during her tenure at ASC, museum assets grew from $3 to $42 million, annual revenues grew by more than 200 percent, and the number of annual visitors to ASC, onsite and offsite, more than tripled; her leadership led to ASC acquiring two non-profits to maximize programming and ASC becoming a trusted partner to state education leaders and the science teaching community; prior to being named CEO in 2005, she served in multiple roles with the institution; earlier in her career, she gained experience in development with the Phoenix Symphony and two institutions of higher education; and

WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is recognized as a leader on national and international levels; she currently serves as chair of the Board of the American Alliance of Museums, the largest international association of museums in the world; she was selected by her peers as chair of the Board of the Association of Science and Technology Centers, the organization that serves more than 500 science centers in more than 50 countries; and

WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is well-known in the Arizona community and beyond for her leadership; she was named Mentor of the Year the first time the award was given and one of the Most Admired CEOs by Phoenix Business Journal; she was also named a Visionary Leader by the Women's National Basketball Association and BBVA Compass; and

WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey is the first woman and Black American to lead the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI); she received a unanimous vote to become the next president and CEO of MSI from the Board of Trustees; she was chosen for her effective leadership skills, her track record, her commitment to science education, her international leadership within her field, and her deep desire to engage with Chicago's many diverse communities; and

WHEREAS, Chevy Humphrey stepped into her new position as president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in January 2021; she succeeded David Mosena, who retired at the end of 2020 after 23 years leading MSI; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Chevy Humphrey on being named president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and welcome her to Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chevy Humphrey as an expression of our esteem and respect.
