HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Alderman-At-Large Robert
4J. O'Connor on his retirement from public service after
5serving the citizens of Aurora for 36 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor graduated from East Aurora High
7School, the University of Illinois, and the University of
8Notre Dame Law School; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor is an attorney in Aurora and
10practices law in the areas of estate planning, wills and
11trusts, and real estate representation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor was first elected to the Aurora
13City Council in 1985; after the early retirement of Aurora
14Mayor Thomas J. Weisner, he was unanimously elected by his
15Aurora City Council colleagues to serve as mayor from October
162016 to May 2017; he presently serves as the chairman of the
17Finance Committee and as a member of Building, Zoning, and
18Economic Development (BZE) of the city council; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor additionally serves as a member
20on the State of Illinois Council on Aging and as a board member
21of the Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging (AgeGuide

1Northeastern Illinois), The Aurora Police Foundation, and the
2Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley; he is also a
3member of the Aurora Exchange Club and the Kane County Bar
4Association; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor is married to Mary, a retired
6teacher who taught for over two decades at East Aurora
7District 131; they have two sons, Tom, who is married to Teresa
8Waldinger, and John; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we congratulate Alderman-At-Large Robert J. O'Connor on his
12retirement from public service and thank him for his 36 years
13of dedication to the citizens of Aurora; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Alderman O'Connor as an expression of our esteem
16and respect.
