HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dennis Bergman on his retirement as the village president of Lena after 16 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Bergman was born to Harold and Esther Bergman of Lena; he graduated from Lena-Winslow High School and took classes at both Highland Community College and Rock Valley Community College; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Bergman served as a member of the Lena Volunteer Fire Department from 1978 until 2012; he served as fire chief from 1994 until 2006 and is a past president of the Stephenson County Fire Chief's Association; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Bergman began serving as a village trustee in 1979 and served continuously until 1991; he was subsequently elected as village president in 2005, a role in which he served until 2021; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Bergman has been involved in numerous civic activities that have greatly improved his community and our region, including serving as a past board member of the Stephenson County Chapter of the American Red Cross, as past president of the Stephenson County Local Emergency Planning Committee, on the Stephenson County Jail Advisory Committee, on the Lena-Winslow School District Facility Planning Committee, as a past member of the Lena Lion's Club, as past president of the Lena-Winslow Sports Booster Club, and as a board member of the Northwest Illinois Sports Hall of Fame Committee; and

WHEREAS, After retirement from public service, Dennis Bergman looks forward to spending time with family and friends and traveling; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dennis Bergman on the occasion of his retirement as village president of Lena, thank him for his many years of service to the people of Lena, Stephenson County, and the State of Illinois, and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dennis Bergman as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
