HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate John Spiros Jr. on the
4occasion of his retirement from Painters District Council #14;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. was initiated into Painters
7District Council #14, Local Union #147, as an apprentice in
8August 1976; he completed his apprentice program and worked in
9the field until he accepted a teaching/painting instructor
10position at Washburne Trade School in 1981; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. received his teaching
12certification for the Chicago Board of Education from Chicago
13State University in 1984; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in
14Occupational Education in May 1986; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. continued working as an
16instructor until 1990 when he accepted a position as a
17business representative at Painters District Council #14,
18which he held from 1990 to 2015; and
 
19    WHEREAS, During his time as a business representative,
20John Spiros Jr. served as a trustee on the Painters and Drywall
21Apprenticeship Committee from 1991 to 2015; he has served as a

1delegate for the Chicago and Cook County Building Trades
2Council since 1990; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. was elected business
4manager/secretary-treasurer of Painters District Council #14
5in June 2015; during his tenure, he served as a trustee for the
6Chicago Painters Health and Welfare Fund; he serves as a
7member on the executive boards of the Chicago Federation of
8Labor and the Chicago Cook County Building and Construction
9Trades; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. was also very active with Local
11Union #147, where he served as a trustee and president; he was
12also a delegate to District Council #14, Central Regional
13Conference State Painters, and Building Trades in Washington;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. will spend his retirement with
16his wife, Mariellen, and they plan to spend many days at their
17log home in Wisconsin; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we congratulate John Spiros Jr. on his retirement from
21Painters District Council #14, commend him for his 45 years of
22service, and thank him for his contributions to organized

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to John Spiros Jr. as an expression of our esteem and
4respect.
