HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Phyllis
4Ann Jameson of Milford, who passed away on April 23, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Phyllis Jameson was born in Bryce to Annette and
6Elmer Breymeyer on September 25, 1931; she graduated from
7Milford Township High School in 1949; she married Dale W.
8Jameson in Chicago in January 1952, and he preceded her in
9death on November 16, 1977; she later married Raymond Gibson
10in July 1984; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Phyllis Jameson was appointed as the first female
12coroner of Iroquois County on an interim basis after the
13sudden passing of her husband and then-Iroquois County
14Coroner, Dale W. Jameson; she became one of the first female
15officials elected to a countywide position when she was
16elected as coroner in November 1978; she won her next four
17elections for Iroquois County Coroner and served for 20 years;
18after the resignation of the sheriff, she briefly served in
19the additional role of sheriff in 1980, making her the first
20female sheriff of Iroquois County; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Phyllis Jameson was elected as president of the
22Illinois Coroner's Association in December 1985, where she

1spearheaded the effort to make continuing education training
2compulsory for all coroners in Illinois; she was appointed to
3the Advisory Board on Necropsy Services by the Illinois Senate
4in July 1988, serving until she retired as coroner; after her
5retirement, she was elected to the Iroquois County Board,
6where she served for 10 years; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Phyllis Jameson was a lifelong member of St.
8John's Lutheran Church in Schwer; she served on numerous civic
9boards and organizations; she loved spending time with her
10family, especially her children and grandchildren; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Phyllis Jameson enjoyed her career as a public
12servant, while serving in one of the most challenging public
13roles; she was highly respected and known for her expertise
14and for being compassionate, refreshingly honest,
15conscientious, helpful, and forever thorough; she leaves a
16legacy as a pioneer for women in her field and as a dedicated
17public servant who understood the importance of her role in
18making families feel heard during difficult times; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Phyllis Jameson was preceded in death by her
20parents; her sister, Nancy Sloan; her brother, Byron
21Breymeyer; and her stepsons, Dr. David Jameson and Larry
22Jameson; and

1    WHEREAS, Phyllis Jameson is survived by her husband of
2over 36 years, Raymond Gibson; her children, Doug (Gloria)
3Jameson, Susan (John) Odenthal, Dan (Kathleen) Jameson, and
4Sally (John) Allhands; her twelve grandchildren, Annie (Steve)
5Cunningham, Brad (Sarah) Jameson, Christopher (Melody)
6Jameson, Dr. Jill (Mike) Scracic, Amy (Alex) Pokorny, John
7Odenthal, Megan (John) Delurey, Jenna (John) Holzhauser, Danny
8Jameson, Tyler Allhands, Jessica Allhands, and Emily Allhands;
9her 15 great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of Phyllis Ann Jameson and extend our
14sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
15and loved her; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Phyllis Jameson as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
