HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ray C.
4"Bugs" Smith of Onarga, formerly of Carterville, who passed
5away on December 1, 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ray Smith was born in Marion to Ruth Stone on
7December 17, 1963; he married Lenore Hoeksema in Watseka on
8October 14, 1999; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ray Smith worked as a maintenance supervisor for
10T&D Metal in Watseka; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Along with Glenn and Betty Koets and Pastor Jim
12Small, Ray Smith helped establish the Garage Community Center
13in Gilman; he was passionate about the mission of the center,
14as he wanted to give the youth of the community a safe and fun
15place to gather; he served as president since it was founded;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ray Smith was dedicated to his community and
18served on the Onarga Library Board, as an election judge, and
19as a precinct committeeman; he was an active member of the
20Gilman Old Boys and Girls committee and was the coordinator
21and master griller at the Hometown Foods cookouts for both the

1Garage Community Center and the Onarga Christian Church, where
2he was an active member and also served as a Sunday school
3teacher and worked with the youth group; he was deeply
4committed to his faith, fun-loving, and an avid Cardinals fan;
5he will be remembered as someone who brought people together
6and motivated them to work for the common good; when there was
7a need, he was the first to say yes, the first to show up, and
8the last to leave; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ray Smith was preceded in death by his daughter,
10Madeline Smith; his mother, Ruth Smith; and his grandparents,
11Ray and Opal Stone; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ray Smith is survived by his wife, Lenore; his
13stepdaughter, Xynora Jackson; his siblings, Bernadine (Dean)
14Vaughn, Steve (Caroline) Smith, Jeff (Susan) Heesch, Paul
15(Glennda) Smith, Don (Janet) Smith, Jim (Tammy) Smith, and
16Kenny (Lisa) Stone; his special aunt, Ruby Ottolini; and
17several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Ray C. "Bugs" Smith and extend our
21sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
22and loved him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Ray Smith as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
