HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Joe Ciaccio on the
4occasion of his retirement; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Ciaccio was born in Springfield and graduated
6from Griffin High School in 1969; he graduated from St. Louis
7University and received his Juris Doctor from the Northern
8Illinois University College of Law; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Joe Ciaccio served as a staff attorney for the
10Illinois House of Representatives from 1980 to 1983 and as the
11manager of Government Affairs for the Illinois Chamber of
12Commerce from 1983 to 1986; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joe Ciaccio served as Vice President and General
14Counsel for the Illinois Railroad Association; he was elected
15President of the Illinois Railroad Association in 1999 and is
16only the third person to head the association; and
 
17    WHEREAS, During Joe Ciaccio's leadership at the Illinois
18Railroad Association, there has been a dramatic and measurable
19improvement in public safety as realized in fewer fatalities,
20accidents, and trespassing at railroad crossings due to
21industry participation with first responders and safety

1agencies; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Joe Ciaccio has worked closely with stakeholders
3throughout the State of Illinois to maintain and develop
4Illinois' first in nation status on freight rail volumes,
5including the unparalleled growth of intermodal, and
6presently, 46% of the nation's cargo comes through the State
7of Illinois; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Joe Ciaccio has represented Illinois to a larger
9national group of railroad professionals across the United
10States at conferences, panels, and meetings as a respected
11leader; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Joe Ciaccio has chaired Illinois' "Third House"
13and has earned the respect of generations of lobbyists,
14government affairs representatives, legislative staff, and
15elected officials; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Joe Ciaccio and his wife, Deborah, have two
17children, Joseph and Michael, and three grandchildren, Leo,
18Elizabeth, and Madeleine; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we congratulate Joe Ciaccio on his retirement and wish him the

1best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Joe Ciaccio as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
