HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Jacob "Jake" Rendleman has dedicated more than four decades of public service to the people and concerns of southern Illinois in his varied roles as teacher, business owner, community leader, college board member, and family farmer; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Rendleman's most defining accomplishments have grown from his passion for and commitment to public education in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, Jacob Rendleman earned both a bachelor's degree in Agriculture and a master's degree in Health Education, which contributed to his lifelong passion for agricultural education; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Rendleman is a charter member of Beta Alpha of Alpha Gamma Rho, the professional-social, agriculture fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Rendleman, a lifelong resident of southern Illinois, was first elected to the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees in 1996 and served as board chair from 2001 to 2003 and 2013 to 2015; and

WHEREAS, In addition to the JALC Board of Trustees, Jacob Rendleman has been active with the John A. Logan College Foundation, serving as president from 1991 to 1994; and

WHEREAS, At the state level, Jacob Rendleman was elected by his peers to serve as President of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association from 2003 to 2004; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Rendleman was appointed to serve as the first trustee representative to the Illinois Community College Board in 2006; he subsequently earned bipartisan re-appointment by three different Illinois Governors until 2018; and

WHEREAS, In the summer of 2020, the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the agriculture facility on its Carterville campus as the Jacob "Jake" Rendleman Laboratory in honor of his initiative and advocacy to create a college agriculture program; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Rendleman has been recognized by numerous other organizations for his support of public education; notably, he has received the ICCTA Meritorious Service Award, the ICCTA Ray Hartstein Trustee Achievement Award, and the SIU College of Agriculture Science Alumni Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Rendleman, his wife of 58 years, Carolyn, and his two daughters, Amy Schwendemann and Susan Dennison, have all served as public school teachers and educators; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Jacob "Jake" Rendleman for his many years of selfless public service to the people and public education systems of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jacob Rendleman as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
