HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Shokry Tawfik, M.D., on the occasion of receiving the 2021 Rural Physician Lifetime of Service Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and

WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik graduated from Cairo University School of Medicine in 1975; he completed his internship at Cairo University Hospitals along with his residency from Fayoum Chest Hospital before immigrating to the United States, where he completed his residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik established his family practice in Lena and joined the staff at FHN Memorial Hospital in 1984, where he has held various leadership positions through the years, including chair of the Family Medicine Department, president of the medical staff, chair of the Credentials Committee, and chair of the Recruitment and Retention Committee; he has also served on the hospital's board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik has consistently shown support for his office staff, especially in times of great stress; he has hosted dinners for staff at his home in appreciation for the care they have provided his patients; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik's passion to help rural medically underserved areas of northwest Illinois has extended outside the state, as he is a strong supporter of medical mission trips and an active member of the Christian Medical and Dental Associates; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his service to patients, Dr. Tawfik has been an active member of various community organizations in Lena and the surrounding areas over the past few decades; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Shokry Tawfik, M.D., on receiving the 2021 Rural Physician Lifetime of Service Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we commend Dr. Tawfik for his compassion, his dedication to his patients, and his service in rural medicine in northwest Illinois over the past 37 years, and we wish him the best in his retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Tawfik as an expression of our esteem and respect.
