HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives would like to recognize Deputy Tyler Post of the Grundy County Sheriff's Office for his courage as he was shot on October 7, 2021 while pursuing an offender; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Post was initiating a traffic stop on Illinois Route 47 when the vehicle attempted to flee before crashing; and

WHEREAS, The offender ran from the crash on foot at which time he fired four shots, three of which hit Deputy Post; and

WHEREAS, Despite his injuries, Deputy Post displayed resilience as he radioed for help, including a description of the individual fleeing the scene; and

WHEREAS, While Deputy Post was being treated for his injuries, his peers at the Grundy County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police, hostage negotiators, Will County SWAT Team, and other local law enforcement agencies were able find the injured suspect hiding in an apartment complex; he was arrested without incident; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Post's selfless actions led to the arrest of Mr. Demarcus Denwiddie, who has been charged with six counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, three counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and three counts of Aggravated Battery; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of Grundy County are safer because of Officer Post and other law enforcement officials; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Deputy Tyler Post for his courageous and selfless acts; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Deputy Post as a token of our appreciation.
