HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Polly O'Brien grew up walking the halls of the
3statehouse while her father Jack O'Brien served as Clerk of
4the House; as a child, she spent time playing with the children
5of elected officials and other state leaders, such as former
6Attorney General Lisa Madigan, daughter of former House
7Speaker Michael J. Madigan; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Polly O'Brien followed in her father's footsteps
9and spent her career serving the Illinois House of
10Representatives; as a Springfield native, she also devoted
11many years of service to her hometown; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Polly O'Brien began working at the Illinois
13Department of Public Aid in 1985; she joined the House
14Democratic Caucus Issues Development Unit in 1998 and then
15moved to the Office of the House Clerk in 2007, a position she
16held for more than a decade; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Polly O'Brien has proven herself to be a loyal
18and dependable friend; she did not have co-workers, but rather
19friends with whom she worked; her friends know that once you
20are friends with her then you are friends for life, and you can
21call her for anything you need; and

1    WHEREAS, Polly O'Brien has always been devoted to her
2family, which includes her father, her sisters Marjie and
3Bridget, and her late mother Sharon; she has many hobbies,
4including watching baseball as an avid fan of the Chicago
5Cubs; she also loves attending the Illinois State Fair and
6while working had a tradition of using her vacation time to
7attend the fair every year; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Polly O'Brien retired from her position in the
9clerk's office in December of 2020, following 36 years of
10service to the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate Polly O'Brien on her retirement and thank her
14for her many years of devoted service to the Illinois House of
15Representatives; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Polly O'Brien as a symbol of our esteem and
18respect.
