HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Mary E. Robinson on the occasion of being named a Golden Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA); and

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1908 and incorporated in 1913; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the nation's oldest African-American Greek letter organization for college-educated women who have committed themselves to providing extraordinary "Service to All Mankind" for the past 114 years; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is comprised of nearly 300,000 members in approximately 1,018 graduate and undergraduate chapters in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Dubai, Germany, Japan, Liberia, and South Korea; and

WHEREAS, Many prominent Illinois women have been or are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., including Lt. Governor Julianna Stratton, Senator and Majority Caucus Chair Mattie Hunter, and Representative LaToya Greenwood; and

WHEREAS, Mary Robinson has been given the title of Golden Soror, which is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. who has served and continues to serve the organization for 50 years or more; and

WHEREAS, Mary Robinson belongs to the Central Region of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., which was established in Chicago in 1919 and is comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the southeastern portion of Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Mary Robinson was honored at the public meeting of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.'s 88th Central Regional Conference in March 2022; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Mary E. Robinson on being named a Golden Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and commend the sorority for its commitment to scholarship, leadership, civic engagement, and public service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Mary Robinson and to the Delta Delta Omega and Theta Omega Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc. as an expression of our esteem and respect.
