HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo is a sixth grade student at Aux Sable Middle School in Plainfield; and

WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo was at lunch on St. Patrick's Day and noticed his friend was coughing and choking; initially, he thought his friend was joking, but then his friend's face turned from red to bright purple; and

WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo responded quickly and proceeded to perform the Heimlich maneuver on his friend; upon the arrival of school staff, his friend was breathing again; and

WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo was to be his friend's "lucky charm" on that St. Patrick's Day according to the school nurse; and

WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo provided assistance and care for his friend and saved his life; and

WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo's advice for others in a similar situation is to remain calm and not overthink it; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Sergio Escobedo for his quick, decisive, and lifesaving actions to help a friend in dire need; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we should all strive to help others in need in similar ways and, per Sergio Escobedo's advice, remain calm and not overthink it; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sergio Escobedo as an expression of our esteem and respect.
