SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
225 ILCS 95/12.5 new

    Amends the Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987. Adds provision requiring that applicants for licensure as a physician assistant shall submit their fingerprints for the purpose of criminal history records background checks.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987 is
5amended by adding Section 12.5 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 95/12.5 new)
7    Sec. 12.5. Criminal history records background check. Each
8applicant for licensure under Section 12 shall have his or her
9fingerprints submitted to the Illinois State Police in an
10electronic format that complies with the form and manner for
11requesting and furnishing criminal history record information
12as prescribed by the Illinois State Police. These fingerprints
13shall be transmitted through a live scan fingerprint vendor
14licensed by the Department. These fingerprints shall be
15checked against the Illinois State Police and Federal Bureau
16of Investigation criminal history record databases now and
17hereafter filed. The Illinois State Police shall charge
18applicants a fee for conducting the criminal history records
19check, which shall be deposited into the State Police Services
20Fund and shall not exceed the actual cost of the records check.
21The Illinois State Police shall furnish, pursuant to positive
22identification, records of Illinois convictions to the
23Department. The Department may require applicants to pay a

1separate fingerprinting fee, either to the Department or to a
2vendor designated or approved by the Department.
