SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 3

    Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that the oath of office for each prospective holder of a State office shall include an affirmation to protect and honor the diversity of the people of Illinois. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
5REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be
6submitted to the electors of the State for adoption or
7rejection at the general election next occurring at least 6
8months after the adoption of this resolution a proposition to
9amend Section 3 of Article XIII of the Illinois Constitution
10as follows:

GENERAL PROVISIONS

13    (ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 3)
14SECTION 3. OATH OR AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE
15    Each prospective holder of a State office or other State
16position created by this Constitution, before taking office,
17shall take and subscribe to the following oath or affirmation:
18    "I do solemnly swear (affirm) that I will support the
19Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the
20State of Illinois, and protect and honor the diversity of the
21people of this great State as provided in the Illinois Human
22Rights Act, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of
23the office of .... to the best of my ability."

SCHEDULE
3    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
4declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
5Constitutional Amendment Act.
