| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Brazinski Pork Farm of Coulterville received | 3 | | the 2021 Illinois Pork Producers Association Family of the | 4 | | Year Award; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The Brazinski Pork Farm produces 34,000 market | 6 | | hogs per year and runs a row crop farming operation that | 7 | | includes 2,200 acres of corn, soybeans, and wheat; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Brazinski Pork Farm is a family farm and is | 9 | | led by Jim Brazinski; he is president of the pig production | 10 | | companies Grand View Farm and Grand Tower Farm and a service | 11 | | agency Corn Silk LLC and owns Brazinski Pork Farm; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Jim Brazinski's family has an extensive farming | 13 | | background; the maternal side of his family arrived in the | 14 | | U.S. in the 1850s; his paternal family fled Lithuania due to | 15 | | political tensions; his grandfather established the family | 16 | | farm in Coulterville in the 1920s; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Jim Brazinski's parents raised their children | 18 | | along with many animals on their farm; his brother began | 19 | | raising hogs for a 4-H project in 1966; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Jim Brazinski graduated from SIU Carbondale in |

| 1 | | 1984 and started constructing more hog buildings on their | 2 | | family farm with the family doing most of the construction to | 3 | | keep costs down; they still build a lot of equipment in their | 4 | | shop today; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, In 2006, upon the suggestion of Dr. Bill Hollis, | 6 | | the Brazinski Family Farm joined a sow farm to improve the | 7 | | consistency of their pig flows and to be able to raise larger | 8 | | groups of pigs all the same age; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Family has always been a huge part of the | 10 | | Brazinski Pork Farm values; Jim Brazinski and his siblings | 11 | | continue to make sure that their mother, who has Alzheimer's | 12 | | disease, is taken care of along with their father; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After several failed attempts to use caregiving | 14 | | agencies, the Brazinski family decided to form a small LLC | 15 | | called Corn Silk and hire their own caregivers; they formed | 16 | | Corn Silk with the belief that care needed to be | 17 | | compassionate, reliable, and the best possible for their | 18 | | parents; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, The farm currently employs six full-time | 20 | | employees and two part-time employees and has a total of four | 21 | | farms that contract finish hogs for the Brazinski family; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Brazinski family continues to strive to | 2 | | produce the best possible pork; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, A 13-year member of the Marissa School Board, Jim | 4 | | Brazinski is an avid volunteer and is a member of St. Anthony's | 5 | | Lively Grove Catholic Church; he remains grateful, especially | 6 | | when reminded of the hardships that his family has had to | 7 | | endure; therefore, be it | 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare November 2, | 10 | | 2021 as Brazinski Family Farm Day; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the Brazinski family as a sign of our respect and | 13 | | esteem.
