SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eugene Joseph Mattecheck of Moline, who passed away on March 17, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was born in Webster, South Dakota to Joseph and Mayme (Premus) Mattecheck on June 13, 1932; he married Barbara Jo Nelson in Moline on November 8, 1952; he served in the United States Army for two years, one year in Korea from 1953 to 1954, and was honorably discharged in November of 1960; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was employed at John Deere Harvester for 12 years; he then joined the Moline Police Department, where he became the first full-time range officer; he proudly served the city for 16 years; during his time on the force, he attended special tactical firearms training at the F.B.I Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was affectionately known as "EJ"; he enjoyed hunting, especially squirrels, crows, and coyotes; he traveled to Wyoming to hunt prairie dogs, antelope, and deer, making the trip 18 times in his lifetime; he was a life-long member of the N.R.A. and a member of the Milan Rifle Club for over 42 years; he also belonged to the Illinois Police Association; he enjoyed visiting and having coffee with friends and family; he was an excellent father and a great role model, known to be generous to a fault; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Moore Mattecheck; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara; his sons, Eugene Jr. (Clarisa) and Neal (Debbie); his daughters, Gayla and Darla; his son, Paul Robert; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Roger (Teresa); and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eugene Joseph Mattecheck and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eugene Mattecheck as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
