SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Pedro Velez of Burlington, Wisconsin,
4who passed away on April 10, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was born to Octavio Velez and Carmen
6Lopez Velez in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on September 11, 1940;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Pedro Velez arrived in the United States when he
9was 17; he began his journey on the east coast and later moved
10to Chicago where he would meet his love, Carin; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Pedro Velez married Carin (Malecki) Velez and
12remained married for over 50 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Pedro Velez and his wife later moved to Lake
14Geneva, Wisconsin where he spent the rest of his life; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was affectionately known as Bolo, a
16nickname given to him by his firstborn grandson; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was an avid dominoes player and was
18an exceptional gardener and cook; and

1    WHEREAS, Pedro Velez was the loving father of William
2Velez, Amy Velez, John (Vanessa) Velez, Edward (Maggie) Velez,
3Rebecca (Benjamin Collazo) Velez-Collazo, and Eric Velez, the
4dearest brother of Roberto Velez, the late Genaro Velez,
5Octavio (Victor) Velez, the late Carmelina Velez, Jose Antonio
6Velez, and Ana Celia Velez, the beloved son of the late Octavio
7and Carmen (Rivera) Velez, the cherished grandfather of
8Benjamin Collazo, Liliana Velez, Emily Velez, Daniela Velez,
9Michael Morgan, Lucas Collazo, Charles "Chucky" Castro, and
10Justin Castro, the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews, and
11the missed presence of many other relatives and friends;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Pedro Velez and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
16friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Pedro Velez as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
