SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Donald E. "Don" Johnston of Moline,
4who passed away on August 7, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Johnston was born in Moline to Eugene "Sqeak"
6and Irene Swanson Johnston on April 29, 1948; he graduated
7from Moline High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Marine
8Corps during the Vietnam War; he married Debbie Johnston, and
9they had two sons and later divorced; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Don Johnston worked as a business agent for the
11International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 District
128, Rock Island; he also owned and operated JV Consulting; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Don Johnston was elected Moline Township
14Supervisor in 2005; he was appointed to the county board in
152010 and elected that November, representing District 11; he
16was active in the Democratic Party and served as the 17th
17Congressional Democratic State Central Committeeman; he also
18served as the labor liaison for U.S. Senator Paul Simon; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Don Johnston was a busy man and always worked
20extremely hard on the current project or problem; he enjoyed
21boating so much he bought a boat and became captain of his

1ship, Cabin Fever, which gave him much needed time with family
2and friends doing what he loved; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Don Johnston was preceded in death by his parents
4and his son, Donny Johnston; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Johnston is survived by his son, Jasen
6Johnston; two grandchildren; his sister, Jane Johnston; and
7his life-long friend, Pat Veronda; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Donald E. "Don" Johnston and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Don Johnston as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
