SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Loretta Edwards Troyer of Oak Park,
4who passed away on July 14, 2021 at the age of 85; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was born the eldest of four
6siblings in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on November 13, 1935 to
7Raymond Edwards, and Lee (Lina) Feindert; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer excelled in school and graduated
9from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1954 with a scholarship to
10study nursing at Pennsylvania College for Women (Chatham
11University) in Pittsburgh; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In college, Loretta Troyer met her future
13husband, William G. "Bill" Troyer Jr., a third-year University
14of Pittsburgh medical student; they were married in 1959 in
15the Unitarian Church and began their life together in
16Pittsburgh as she started her career in nursing at Allegheny
17General Hospital; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Loretta and Bill Troyer moved several times
19during the early years of their marriage due to the demands of
20their budding medical careers; together, they worked in
21Oklahoma City, Durham, North Carolina, and Delphi, Maryland,

1where her husband served at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, In Adelphi, Maryland, Loretta Troyer was accepted
4to Catholic University's master's in nursing program; after
5giving birth to her daughter, Judy, in 1969, she took a year
6off school, and she and her family moved to Madison, Wisconsin
7and then moved back to Washington D.C. to finish the last year
8of her master's program; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Upon moving to Madison, Loretta Troyer worked at
10University of Wisconsin's Nursing and Rehabilitation teaching
11hospital; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In the summer of 1974, Loretta Troyer and her
13family moved to Oak Park, which became their permanent home;
14she continued her medical career at the University of Illinois
15School of Nursing; once her children became older, she joined
16the Oak Park Health Department as an inspector and was known
17for holding restaurant owners to high public health standards;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Loretta and Bill Troyer were deeply involved in
20charitable endeavors and dedicated themselves to mental health
21causes; together, they participated in multiple fundraisers
22for Thresholds, an organization working to transform the lives

1of those with mental illness and substance use disorders; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was also an active participant
3with the University of Illinois academic exchange programs;
4she and her husband hosted faculty visiting from around the
5world and traveled to various destinations including Egypt,
6China, Hong Kong, and Tibet; later in life, she would enjoy
7visits with her grandchildren from California and River
8Forest; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was a dedicated mother, caregiver,
10friend, and traveler known for her steadfast work ethic and
11compassion for those in need; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer was preceded in death by her
13parents and her brother, Howard Edwards; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Loretta Troyer is survived by her sister, Alberta
15King; her brother, Robert Edwards; her children, William G.
16"Bill" Troyer III, Steve Troyer (Presley Stokes), and Judy
17(Richard) Deogracias; her grandchildren, Wade Troyer, Amelia
18Troyer, George Troyer, and Raymond and Lourdes Deogracias; and
19her great-granddaughter, Seraphina Loretta O'Leary, who
20arrived three days after her passing; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Loretta Edwards Troyer and extend our sincere condolences to
3her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Loretta Troyer as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
