SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Carrie Bankes of Oak Park, who passed
4away on June 16, 2021 at the age of 56; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was born in Lansing, Michigan; she
6earned her bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Journalism
7from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; she moved to the
8Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago; she met her husband,
9Steve Bankes, on Halloween night in 1992; together, they had 3
10children and 4 dogs; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes worked at Housing Forward, an
12organization that assists families experiencing homelessness;
13she was previously an employee of the Oak Park Wednesday
14Journal newspaper; she was noted for her invaluable talents in
15marketing communications; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was a 22-year congregant of Unity
17Temple, where she volunteered, served on the Board of
18Trustees, and chaired the Education Committee for Children and
19Youth; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was a strong supporter of the
21nonprofit organizations Planned Parenthood and Forging

1Opportunities for Refugees; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes relished the beauty of nature, and
3she was known for sending flowers to her elderly neighbors;
4she also loved animals, and her love for them influenced her
5diet; and
 
6    WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Carrie Bankes was
7survived by her husband of 26 years, Steve Bankes, and her
8children, Julia, Abby, and Will; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Carrie Bankes and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Carrie Bankes as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
