SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Denysia Bastas of Springfield, who passed away January 11, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Denysia Bastas was born in Benton to Thomas and Laura (Perkins) Bastas on February 13, 1928; and

WHEREAS, Denysia Bastas was a valued employee of the State of Illinois for more than 45 years; she began her government career in 1953 in the office of Secretary of State Charles Carpentier; she later worked in the office of Attorney General Latham Castle, for the Teachers' College Board, and for the Illinois Senate, where she assisted some of the State's most distinguished legislators; she was a key assistant to Lieutenant Governor Bob Kustra from 1991 until her retirement in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Denysia Bastas belonged to the First Christian Church in both Springfield and Benton; and

WHEREAS, Denysia Bastas was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Paul Bastas; and

WHEREAS, Denysia Bastas is survived by her brother, Bob (Yolanda) Bastas; her nieces, Deitri (Mike) Brixey and Nicole (Tom) Jett; and her nephews, Craig (Rita), Rick (Gail), and Neal (Julia) Bastas; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Denysia Bastas and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Denysia Bastas as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
