SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard L. Black of Hillsdale, who
4passed away on February 4, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Black was born in Hillsdale to Clarence
6and Bertha (Heeren) Black on March 28, 1943; he was the only
7member of the family that was born in a house with electricity
8and attended a one-room schoolhouse as a child; he was in the
9first graduating class from the combined Riverdale school
10district in 1961; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Richard Black was drafted into the U.S. Army and
12served near Seoul, Korea as a cook; he was honorably
13discharged in 1968 and returned to Hillsdale; while stationed
14overseas, he married his first wife, Lynda "Chong Cha" Pak;
15after her passing in 1973, he married Lois Ann Smith in 1976;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Richard Black worked for AMETEK in East Moline,
18before joining John Deere; during his John Deere years, he
19worked at the Parts Distribution Center in Milan and Seeding
20in Moline; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Richard Black enjoyed hunting with a gun during

1his younger years and then, as an adult, developed a love for
2using a bow and arrow to hunt deer and other big game; in the
31970s and 1980s, he ran a home-based business called Black's
4Archery; he also started the Rock River Bowhunters Club in
5Port Byron; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In his retirement years, Richard Black became
7known throughout the community due to his passion for
8restoring vintage bicycles and antique tractors; he was a
9lifelong fan of football and played in high school and enjoyed
10watching NFL games; he enjoyed drives around the countryside
11to check for deer or to see if the water was up or down on any
12of the local rivers; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Richard Black was preceded in death by his first
14wife, Lynda "Chong Cha" Pak; his parents; and his brothers,
15Bill and Ralph; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Richard Black is survived by his wife, Lois; his
17daughter, Diane Black; his son, Michael Black; his
18stepdaughter, Stacie (Jeremy) Baker; three grandchildren and
19two great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles (Patt) Black;
20his sister-in-law, Lois Black; and several nieces and nephews;
21therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Richard L. Black and extend our sincere condolences to his
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Richard Black as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
