SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ted "Redeye" G. Schumann Sr., who passed away on February 3, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was born to Robert and Ethel (Follis) Schumann on July 27, 1929; he married Millie Retzer on January 8, 1955; he served his country in the Korean War as a sergeant in the U. S. Army and received a purple heart during his time in combat; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was the owner of Schumann's Conoco Gas Station in Kampsville; he was also a friendly school bus driver, an outstanding referee who was always called in for the big game, and a compassionate coach and mentor; he coached basketball for over 50 years at Kampsville Grade School, St. Norbert's Grade School, and Calhoun Junior High and also coached in many other sports; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schumann served as the Mayor of Kampsville for a number of years; his community service and generosity were boundless; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was a member of Kampsville American Legion Post 1083 for more than 60 years and served as commander, adjutant, and chaplain; he was also a board member for the Center for American Archeology; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his four siblings, Harold (Dorothy) Schumann, Deneen "Deaner" (Lela) Schumann, Gloria "Sis" (Gene) Becker, and Murial "Mackie" (Ed) Spears; and his sister-in-law, Betty Lorsbach McGinnis; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schumann is survived by his three children, Beverly (Terrill) Mosbarger, Becky (Mike) Weber, and Ted Jr. "Rusty" (Sonya) Schumann; his eleven grandchildren; his eighteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; his brother-in-law, Otto Floyd (Linda) Retzer; and his numerous special nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ted "Redeye" G. Schumann Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ted Schumann as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
