SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Richard Sorensen of Moline, who passed away on March 4, 2022; and

WHEREAS, David Sorensen was born to Edward and Mable (Neumann) Sorensen in Moline on December 7, 1940; he graduated from Moline High School and served in the U.S. Army; he married Cathy Douglas, with whom he had two children; he later married Catherine Kuk in Davenport, Iowa on July 21, 1996; and

WHEREAS, David Sorensen worked for Channel 8 as a news reporter and cinematographer for five years; he then worked for John Deere as a welder for over 25 years; in retirement, he worked as a seasonal gardener for the city of Moline for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, David Sorensen was a member of the Left Bank Art League; and

WHEREAS, David Sorensen enjoyed gardening and flowers; he was also a well-known local eclectic photographer, who especially enjoyed wildlife and bugs; and

WHEREAS, David Sorensen was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Annalea Schutz; and

WHEREAS, David Sorensen is survived by his two children, Krista Schutz and Aaron (Patty) Sorensen; his four grandchildren, Sophia, Jenna, and Ava Schutz and Isabella Sorensen; his wife, Catherine; and his sister, Boni (Ward) Thompson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Richard Sorensen and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Sorensen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
